Trickle-down economics, amirite?

Turning 55 today. Feels good, all things considered. A novella is brewing, which is cool. This past year, I was proud to post my Star Wars fanfction book here. Yeah…big ol’ long-ass story, can’t charge no money, not very Elon Musk of me.

Writing Sith Rebirth was me looking at my country’s self-inflicted predicament through the lens of a story universe I love, trying to make sense of life on Planet Earth. Watching MAGA cry out for an authoritarian-daddy—then twist themselves in knots turning Donald Trump into that daddy—these observations became a piece of fiction. Which I think is the drill when it comes to art.

I’m proud of my country for not resorting to violence. Epstein’s buddies, Project 2025, Silicon Valley, and Don Jr’s new defense company are begging us to commit acts of aggression that justify martial law. Their problem is their game plan is obvious to everyone except dupes who call themselves “alpha males“.

However…

Since the American Right is not getting its fight, it is targeting marginalized folks as a way of retaliating. “Oh yeah…not letting me sic the cops on you? Well, ICE just assaulted a five-year-old brown kid—how do you feel now, huh?”

How do I, Chris Maley, feel? I feel like shit when MAGAts jump for joy at footage of masked agents teargassing kids. Like absolute shit. While I feel logical for realizing that physically engaging with ICE agents is a sure-fire way to get killed, I also feel powerless. But not 100% powerless. Because I know, in these situations, their mindset wants nothing more than to unleash the goons while using the legal system to twist any person’s action into a justification for cracking down on the masses. They are desperate for ANY excuse at this point. Wealthy child molesters need saviors and too many people are answering their call. The double-whammy with lashing out at authorities goes like this: they’ll kill you, then use your death as a manufactured reason for arresting innocent people.

I know their game. I know non-violence is the answer. I wish more folks would see themselves as part of a majority that can use the system to change it all and tax the rich to pay for the future. Let’s stay non-violent, but figure out how to better help the people who white nationalists view as “collateral damage”. As sad as it is to see, MAGA seems to be embracing this last grasp at achieving a dumb power-fantasy.

I read some Marx in college, enough to know why his thoughts terrify the wealthy. The message I got from my assigned reading was that the masses shouldn’t have to live in squalor so a few at the top can live like fake kings.

Oh, Harpo Marx and his evil grandson, Richard, penning that book of evil spells. Evil.
