Lotsa Nazi-talk in Donald Trump’s America. Too bad the people pushing for fascism and civil wars aren’t too bright.

#realmenwearmasks has been trending on Twitter recently. So basically, the guys pushing for this “civil war” thingie also need others to pander to their insecurities if we want them to consider doing their part to slow the spread of Covid-19.

Reasons like “Help save lives, possibly even your own.” and “The medical system needs to stay ahead of the virus and masks help them do this.” are not good enough for these fellas and their womenfolk to consider wearing masks.

To those in other countries looking at the nuttiness in America, you might be wondering what’s up. Yes: my country’s current behavior is far from normal. But just so you know, instead of engaging in civil war with the MAGA-hatted, the rest of us just want them to:

1) quit being racist
2) quit enabling the rich white men who hate them
3) help stop the spread of coronavirus.

I’m posting this a few days after a sheriff in Washington told the people in his town to ignore an order from the Governor to wear masks in public. “Don’t be a sheep,” he told the gawking crowd.

Which happened not too long after a man in the state of…wait for it…Florida went ballistic at a City Council meeting, saying, “I will not be muzzled like a mad dog.” Like the sheriff in Washington, he refuses to wear a mask to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

While we’re on the subject of Florida, a separate group of Floridians protested mask-wearing at another City Council meeting. According to these folks, masks were the work of the Devil, communists, George Soros, Hillary Clinton, 5G, and so much more.

Back on the West Coast, this Ventura County City Council meeting got an earful from two mask-haters. One of the protestors ended her diatribe with a rendition of “God Bless America.” Way to bring the red, white, and blue thunder down on those fancy ‘rona doctors and employees of the evil liberal government, crazy-lady.

This Costco shopper demanded his freedom to spread Covid and felt the tyranny of being denied. This Trader Joes consumer shouted about the tyranny of the “fucking Democratic pigs” that wanted her to wear a mask. This mask-less Wal-Mart shopper just barreled through the store in his quest to fight tyranny while also stocking up on frozen dinners and cleaning supplies.

The airlines got in on the crazy, too. This frequent flyer felt the need to fly sans mask and threw a tizzy about tyranny when they kicked him off the plane. And wouldn’t you know it? He’s even been on Fox News. The fella might be ahead of the game, too. United and American Airlines just announced that mask-wearing will not be mandatory on their flights. Nice of the airline execs: taking bailout money from the government and then not doing their part to stop the spread of the pandemic. Their behavior is so…so…what’s the word?…so white.

Acting like you’re too tough to wear a mask is pretty much one of the most chickenhawk things I can think of. And the fact that the whole effort gets support from the ultimate chickenhawk, Donald Trump, makes it all much more precious and special.

MAGA is pushing for another civil war. Fuck that shit. I got better things to do and MAGA needs to spend its time more wisely—maybe the red-hatted folks could learn about things like biology and science.

Understand the Right’s behavior: their anger and spite have nothing to do with Covid-19. These people have been itching for a fight ever since America elected, then re-elected, Barack Hussein Obama, Junior as its President. Donald “Bonespurs” Trump got their votes by promising them that he’d sic the National Guard on all of the Americans who voted for Obama. Fox News America sports a giant chip on its collective shoulder and the other side has no desire to knock it off. MAGA has been looking for an excuse to dial 911 and we have not been giving it to them. So a pandemic hits and white America dials up the oppositionalism.

Undoubtedly, the Germany of the early 1930s must have been a scary place and time. The Germans who enabled Hitler sound like they harbored some awful energy even before the Nazis openly talked of authoritarian goals like persecuting Jews, Gypsies, gays, sick people, and any others deemed to be undesirable. But I think they would have worn masks if a pandemic struck. I believe that pre-Nazi Germany grasped the basics of biology much more than the modern Right-leaning American does.

In 2020, these Americans are advocating that the elderly and sick need to die of coronavirus in order to save the stock market. But these Americans don’t seem very Master Racy. This group relies on systemic privilege more than the warrior spirit. While it’s obvious that authoritarianism is their jam, they don’t seem to be very proficient. Pre-Nazi Germans faced lots of adversity, adversity that would chew up the MAGA-hatted crowd and spit it out.

Since some smarty-doctor told MAGA to wear a mask, MAGA ain’t gonna wear a mask. Why? Because it owns the libs. If an authoritarian told MAGA that lighting oneself on fire owned the libs, MAGA would be covered in gasoline right now ready to strike the match.

It’s shameful: a pandemic hits and white America sees it as a chance to pick more fights. Too many unnecessary deaths. Some Americans are grieving the loss of loved ones right now and this didn’t have to happen.
